Get Your Derby On!
The Rubber City Rollergirls!
Formed in 2008, the Rubber City Rollergirls are Akron's premier flat
track roller derby league. The rollergirls are comprised of a diverse group
of women ranging from stay-at-home moms, to accountants, lawyers, teachers,
and everything in between. But these ladies share a common goal -- to skate
hard, to win big, and to make Akron rock and roll!
The league consists of two teams: the AK Rowdy Rollers and the Rubber City
Renegades. Both teams are committed to developing the physical and mental strength
needed to perform on a competitive level, while fostering a sense of independence
and camaraderie among women. The league, which was accepted into the Women's Flat
Track Derby Association (WFTDA) apprentice program, hosts monthly bouts at Akron's
John S. Knight Center and also plays bouts in neighboring states including Kentucky,
Michigan, Indiana, and Pennsylvania.
In addition to providing inexpensive family-friendly entertainment, the Rubber
City Rollergirls are a non-profit organization who do much to contribute to the
surrounding community. They work tirelessly both on and off the track to promote
the welfare of women and children, and to support a vast network of charitable causes.
Their annual "Skate for Kids!" program provides free skating, food, and activities for
over 200 underprivileged children in the Akron area.
